Texas added another outstanding recruit to its roster of young talent on Friday when defensive lineman Justus Terry committed to the Longhorns, according to Manny Navarro of The Athletic.
Terry is the nation’s number ten overall prospect and the second-best defensive lineman in the class, according to 247’s composite rankings. He is Texas’ sixth five-star recruit for next season, equaling Georgia’s total.

And Terry’s pledge propels the Longhorns to the top of the 2025 class rankings, well ahead of the Bulldogs (third) and Alabama (second). Terry’s recruitment was a strange one. The defensive lineman had
He had already verbally committed to both Georgia and USC in recent months, and the Bulldogs were largely seen as the favorites to land him for good before head coach Steve Sarkisian persuaded him to go to Austin instead.
Terry has the potential to be a dominant force in the run game; at 6’5″ and 275 pounds, he is strong and physical enough to fill gaps. But he’s more than just a huge body; he has terrific athleticism and the ability to make plays, even against double teams in the center. Given Texas’ recent history of producing defensive line talent under Sarkisian and defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski, this type of profile should thrill Longhorns fans.
Terry is the newest piece in the puzzle of the Longhorns’ ascension to the top of college football, and he should help Texas keep their title hopes alive in the coming year.
The College Football Playoff Committee discusses the rankings of bubble teams.
The College Football Playoff Committee announced its second-to-last rankings of the year Tuesday night, sparking some debate. Fans were eager to see how the committee would rank bubble teams Alabama, Miami, Ole Miss, and South Carolina. Because not all of the teams listed in the top 12 will be participating in conference championship games on Saturday, the team that the committee placed highest out of the bubble teams will most likely remain there next weekend.
The final rankings have been announced. Alabama was placed eleventh, Miami twelveth, Ole Miss thirteenth, and South Carolina fourteenth. Because the highest-ranked Big 12 team was placed 15th, Miami was the first to be eliminated, and that is expected to continue. Here’s how the bracket looks ahead of the conference championships. Following the announcement of the rankings, committee head Warde Manuel discussed the committee’s rankings of bubble teams to ESPN.
“Alabama is 3-1 against current top-25 teams, and Miami is 0-1,” says Manuel. “Alabama is 6-1 against teams above.500, while Miami is 4-2.” Both have had some disappointing losses in recent games, but Miami has fallen twice in the last three.
The only way Alabama might miss the playoffs is if Clemson defeats SMU in the ACC Championship. If Clemson wins, the Tigers receive an automatic bid to the playoffs, causing SMU to drop in the rankings and compete with Alabama for the final berth. Manuel told ESPN that if SMU loses to Clemson on Saturday, it might fall below Alabama.
This generated a commotion among supporters. If SMU wasn’t competing in the ACC Championship and was ranked eighth in the country, they’d be in the playoffs. However, if they lose, they may miss out in the playoffs. In such circumstance, competing for the conference title is more perilous than not participating at all.
The committee should not include an extra game defeat when determining rankings. Of course, SMU can make this point irrelevant by defeating Clemson on Saturday.
