Enzo Maresca and Chelsea will meet Brentford in the Premier League next weekend.
Thomas Frank is certain Brentford will improve their away form, as the Bees head to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in their next game away.
Brentford fell 3-1 against Aston Villa on Wednesday night, their sixth defeat in seven Premier League away games this season. While Brentford has the greatest home record in the division ahead of Saturday’s game against Newcastle, Frank’s side has only one point away in the top flight this season, a goalless draw at Everton last month.
“Looking back on the (Villa) game on the bus ride home and this morning, I am more optimistic. I believe we played 20 good, solid away minutes in the first 20 minutes and were significantly more than in the game. Then we lose the game in 14 minutes,” Frank stated during a press conference. “For me, I simply look at the game, analyze it, examine the performance, and determine what was good and what was wrong. When I look at the seven away games we’ve played this season, one has been particularly poor. That was Fulham (2-1 defeat).
“When I look at this, it doesn’t seem so horrible. Villa has 14 fantastic minutes, and they played well against us. We’re playing the Champions League.
team. We’re not a Champions League team. You could tell the difference in spells yesterday.
“We have high expectations of ourselves and strong belief. That is why it stings when we lose a game, since we knew and believed we could do something. Unfortunately, we couldn’t.”We have often demonstrated that we can compete with any squad in this category, but we must perform at our peak, which we did not do. I don’t see much of a difference, and I’m sure it will even out throughout the course of the season.””We demonstrated numerous times that we can compete with any team in this division, but we needed to perform at our peak, which we did not do. I don’t see much of a difference, and I’m sure it will even out throughout the course of the season.” Following Brentford’s next Premier League match against Newcastle on Saturday, Frank’s men go to Chelsea to play Enzo Maresca’s team on Sunday, December 15. Brentford were missing seven players at Villa, although captain Christian Norgaard and defender Kristoffer Ajer (foot) may be available for the Newcastle game.
Norgaard missed the midweek game due to a minor injury before returning to training on Thursday, where he was joined by Ajer, who had not played since a 2-1 loss to Manchester United on October 19. Frank continued, “I’m still very hopeful that Norgaard will be available.” He trained on the pitch today, which is a good thing.
“Kristoffer Ajer (trained) as well, so those are the two likely.” The Bees are still missing Rico Henry (knee), Aaron Hickey (hamstring), Josh Dasilva (knee), Mathias Jensen (hamstring), and Gustavo Nunes (back).
