Kenny Atkinson breaks NBA history as the Cleveland Cavaliers win their 14th consecutive game to begin the season. Kenny Atkinson’s tenure with the Cleveland Cavaliers is off to a better start than anyone could have expected when he was recruited at the end of June a few months ago.
The Wine and Gold’s 14-0 record set a new franchise record for the best start in franchise history, and it’s also their longest winning streak of the season.
This start also makes Atkinson the only coach in NBA history to win his first 14 games with a new squad. Lawrence Frank had already set the record with 13 consecutive wins with the New Jersey Nets at the start of the 2003-04 season, so Cleveland had to fight hard for this victory. They opened the night with a historic 49-point first quarter, but the Bulls rallied and even took the lead in the second half. Atkinson’s halftime adjustments, particularly on defense, helped the Cavaliers win 144-126 over the Chicago Bulls.
Everywhere you turn, it appears like the Cavaliers are setting new records and creating new history, both for their franchise and in
NBA history. While it is vital to celebrate and recognize these accomplishments, this squad understands that it wants to be relevant at the conclusion of the season just as much as it does at the start of the year. The more we see the Cavaliers compete on the court, the more obvious it is that Atkinson is the proper coach to help Cleveland achieve its objectives.
