The Georgia Bulldogs faced the most difficult schedule in the NCAA this season, but they still managed to win 11 games and capture another SEC Championship. Along the way, the Bulldogs faced six rated opponents and won four: Clemson, Texas (twice), and Tennessee. Now, as the second seed in the College Football Playoff, Kirby Smart’s team awaits the winner of the No. 10 Indiana vs. No. 7 Notre Dame game to determine who they will face in the Sugar Bowl quarterfinal. Meanwhile, Georgia’s social media team announced that Smart had been nominated a semifinalist for the Georgia Munger Award.
“Coach Smart has been named a semifinalist for the George Munger Award, which is given annually to college football’s most outstanding coach,” Georgia’s social media team announced.
Smart continues to establish himself as one of the finest players in the game. In just nine seasons at Georgia, he has led the Bulldogs to two national championships and four College Football Playoff appearances.
It’s clear why he’s college football’s highest-paid head coach ($13 million). His overall record as Bulldogs head coach is an astounding 105-18. Before becoming head coach at Athens, the 48-year-old spent five years at Alabama, where he learned from the legendary Nick Saban. He began as an assistant coach and defensive backs coach in 2007, and later became the defensive coordinator from 2008 till 2015.
