Sunderland appear to have been struck an early January transfer blow, with Fulham reportedly planning a bid for someone on Kristjaan Speakman’s radar.
Kristjaan Speakman will undoubtedly have numerous tricks in his sleeve for the upcoming January transfer window, just like he did for the previous summer window.
Just as it appeared like Sunderland’s striker quest had come to an end, Speakman signed Wilson Isidor on loan. Sunderland then recruited four new players on deadline day, just when it appeared that the summer would be rather quiet.
Speakman has gained plaudits, and rightfully so. However, there are still some voids in the squad, with Sunderland fans believing a new striker is still required despite the arrivals of Isidor and Aaron Connolly in the summer.
Few have been linked, however. Instead, many Sunderland transfer speculations have recently linked players with moves away from the Stadium of Light, with January looking like a perilous month for the Black Cats.
Fulham want to make a January approach for Brighton and Ireland’s Evan Ferguson.
Sunderland and Leeds United are reportedly interested in Ferguson ahead of the January transfer season, with Brighton considering a loan move.
The 20-year-old has slid down the pecking order due to past injuries. He has only scored once in 11 Premier League games this season, despite scoring six in each of the previous two seasons.
According to a developing story from The Independent, Fulham are ‘investigating a deal’ for Ferguson in January, with a loan agreement being proposed for the Brighton defender, who is regarded as a’serious option’ by the Londoners.
Another striker target appears more probable for Sunderland in January.
A loan deal for Ferguson in January always appeared like a long chance for Sunderland, with a Premier League move being more likely.
Instead, Sunderland may have a more realistic and potentially profitable bet in a permanent move for Celtic’s Daniel Cummings.
Sunderland are interested in Cummings despite his uncertain Celtic future, although he faces competition from an increasing number of clubs in England and Europe.
He appears to share many characteristics with Ferguson, such as being prolific, powerful, and youthful, and Sunderland may prefer to have a striker on their books permanently rather than temporarily.
