Johnson signed a contract with the Bruins after accepting a professional tryout offer during training camp and preseason. The Bruins were delighted enough to sign the 34-year-old for a one-year contract.
Despite the big contract, Johnson hasn’t performed as planned and has been out of the lineup for the majority of the season. Johnson has appeared in nine games for the Bruins and has only two assists. Johnson had opportunities to thrive while playing 13 minutes each game, but he didn’t contribute much in Boston.
Johnson has appeared in 747 regular season NHL games over the course of 13 seasons, the majority of which have been with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Johnson played an important role for the Lightning.
Johnson was a crucial contributor to the Lightning’s back-to-back Stanley Cup victories in 2020 and 2021.
Johnson played 589 games for Tampa Bay over nine seasons, scoring 161 goals and 200 assists for a total of 361 points. Johnson has 433 total points from 747 games, with 193 goals and 240 assists.
Before joining the Bruins, Johnson played three seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks, all of which were marked by injuries.
It’s unclear what comes next for Johnson, but it’s possible that he’s played his final NHL game.
