Walker Buehler, the Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher, was unimpressive for much of the 2024 season. In 16 starts during the regular season, Buehler has a 5.38 ERA and six defeats. Los Angeles could have given up on the righty when he was rehabbing from another arm injury after he lost six of his 16 starts with the loaded Dodgers. However, Buehler was dominant in his final 10 innings of the postseason. In three appearances, including two in the World Series, the Dodgers’ righty allowed 0 runs on five hits and four walks. He was so spectacular on his way to a World Series championship that he may have earned himself a large contract in free agency. However, it will most likely not be with the Dodgers. If
Not with the Dodgers, where will Buehler sign?
Prediction: Walker Buehler joins the New York Mets. Three years and $45 million (opt out after 2026). The New York Mets have earned a fortune by rehabilitating down-and-out pitchers into major league arms. They did this with Sean Manaea and Luis Severino in 2024. They are now developing their rotation in the same manner. Adding Buehler would be the Mets’ most ambitious and lucrative reclamation attempt. If Buehler pitches to his full potential, the Mets will gain a right-hander who may be a Cy Young candidate. If Buehler looks anything like the pitcher that ended the 2024 postseason with Los Angeles, he’d be a steal at $15 million per year.
