Eagles $5.1 million starter agree to leave Philadelphia to join elite Vikings defense

The Minnesota Vikings have found a winning formula in 2024, and general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah will most certainly pursue all alternatives to keep the team’s nucleus intact this offseason.

The Vikings should also have plenty of cap money to add outside players to a team with very few flaws heading into Week 17 of the regular season. The inside pass rush is one of Minnesota’s future expected needs, according to the Bleacher Report scouting department. B/R’s Matt Holder beli eves the Vikings will address that need by signing current Philadelphia Eagles starter Milton Williams, a 25-year-old defensive tackle with five sacks this season.

If the Eagles allow Williams to enter the free agent market, he should have a strong market. He’s a rising star who, together with Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter, has contributed to Philadelphia’s elite defensive front.

Working against the Vikings here? Eagles general manager Howie Roseman prioritizes the trenches, and Williams has thrived this season under new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio’s approach.

Is it possible that Willie Williams has priced himself out of Philadelphia? He makes a solid argument for the same hefty extension that Alim McNeill received from the Detroit Lions this season. Four years, $97 million, and $55 million guaranteed. Throughout three or more seasons, they have been quite similar, with the same 11.5 career sacks. Philly has already made significant future investments in the offense, with recent contracts for WRs A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, LT Jordan Mailata, and RB Saquon Barkley. The Eagles’ cap space for 2025 is estimated to be $36.2 million, ranking them 19th among NFL clubs. They elected to make Williams prove it this season, and now the ball is back in Roseman’s court, with other key impending free agents such as linebacker Zack Baun and right guard Mekhi Becton all looking for new deals.

Adofo-Mensah has a laundry list of free agents to attempt and get back himself, including quarterback Sam Darnold, running back Aaron Jones, cornerback Bryton Murphy Jr., and safety Camryn Bynum. With that said, stealing Williams from Philadelphia would be intriguing and worth considering for the Vikings, assuming the Eagles are ready to let their homegrown star leave.
