Michael Penix Jr., the new Atlanta Falcons quarterback, has announced his engagement to girlfriend Olivia Carter.
It’s another significant accomplishment for the 24-year-old, who took over as the Falcons’ starting quarterback from Kirk Cousins in December.
Penix shared a video of their engagement and commented, ‘I shall love you forever. I can’t wait to experience life with you.
The video depicts Penix’s extraordinary efforts to impress his lover. He had flowers arranged and enormous lettering spelling out ‘MARRY ME’ that Carter couldn’t say anything about.
Penix led the Falcons to a 34-7 victory over the New York Giants in his debut game with the franchise.
He completed 18 of 27 passes for 202 yards and had only one interception to keep the Falcons in contention for the playoffs.
Penix’s next challenge will be against the Washington Commanders on Sunday Night Football later this weekend.
The Falcons selected Penix Jr. with the eighth choice in this year’s NFL Draft, an unexpected move given that they had previously signed Cousins to a rich four-year, $180 million contract.
As the season progressed and the Falcons still had a chance to make the playoffs, head coach Raheem Morris took the gutsy move to bring in Penix Jr. with three regular season games remaining.
‘We’ve been excavating as much as we could to make stuff.
‘Work,’ Morris explained.
‘We wanted to improve our quarterback performance, and we believed we had a shot.’
