One of the most intriguing storylines in the NBA is what the Miami Heat will do with talented forward Jimmy Butler. Butler has demanded a trade out of Miami, and it appears that the Heat are at least open to offers.
While no one knows where he will wind up, one fresh rumor suggests that the Milwaukee Bucks could be a possible destination. According to source John Gambadoro, the Bucks and Memphis Grizzlies are among the clubs discussing acquiring Butler in a trade. This would undoubtedly be a blockbuster deal if it were to occur, but the Bucks have limited resources. Due to the new CBA rules, they would have to move either Damian Lillard or Giannis Antetokounmpo in order to complete the transaction.
It remains to be seen whether Milwaukee is willing to do this, but Lillard is likely to be the outlier here. The Bucks could potentially combine Antetokounmpo and Butler to form one of the best wing duos in the NBA.
Lillard has been an important part of the Bucks’ roster since his arrival last year, but things haven’t gone as planned for Milwaukee. Injuries contributed to the team’s elimination from the first round of the playoffs.
However, this club has struggled with consistency again this year, which has cost them in the standings. This team’s main difficulty has been on the defensive end of the floor. Milwaukee has been unable to get stops.
When they have to do so and it hurts them. Butler would undoubtedly assist with that and might make a significant difference in how the rest of the year unfolds. The veteran will be a free agency at the end of the season, so Milwaukee may either keep him if things work out, work out a sign-and-trade, or simply let him go for financial relief.
Although Butler is unlikely to join the Bucks, this report is intriguing. Milwaukee appears to be at least looking at the possibility of making a significant splash trade to turn things around this season.
