Quinn Ewers got the opportunity to put the rumors about his prospective transfer from Texas to rest before the Longhorns’ biggest game of the season.
He instead kept silent.
Last week, On3 Sports reported that an undisclosed school offered Ewers $6 million to enter the transfer portal and play quarterback for their club.
When asked about the conjecture on Wednesday, the star quarterback avoided questions about his future, as Texas prepares to face Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl, with a chance at the College Football Playoff championship game on the line. “I mean, right now, I’m just, I’m just not worried about all that stuff,” Ewers told reporters on Wednesday, as reported by Dan Wolken of USA Today. “I mean, people can say anything
I want to say something, but, you know, I’m just focused on Friday right now.”
More curiously, Wolken asked a follow-up question to see if Texas’s outcome in either the semis or final would influence the 2025 season decision.
“That’s a great question,” Ewers responded, before returning to his focus on the Cotton Bowl. Ewers, a redshirt junior, has already transferred once throughout his collegiate career, from Ohio State to Texas, before the 2022 season.
No matter what happens in the NCAA Football Playoff, Ewers has one more year of NCAA eligibility before declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft, when he would be one of the best quarterback prospects.
He has
a tremendous 2024 season, throwing for 3,189 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions – including Texas’ two College Football Playoff victories.
Ewers missed two games with an oblique injury, thus heir apparent Arch Manning took over at center.
