The Cincinnati Reds! From the top rope! In what has been an eventful season for the NL Central hopes, general manager Nick Krall made a transaction on Monday to help Cincinnati’s National League playoff chances.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Gavin Lux is being traded to the Reds as the Los Angeles Dodgers face a roster crunch following the signing of Hyeseong Kim. Previous rumors stated that the New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners were Lux’s primary suitors.
It’s unclear what the return is at this point, but it appears that the Reds came out of nowhere with an offer that the Dodgers liked after conversations began swiftly.

Lux is expected to be the team’s starting second baseman on Opening Day, filling the vacuum left by Jonathan India, who was traded to the Kansas City Royals for Brady Singer a few weeks ago. News: Gavin Lux trade fills Cincinnati’s second base void for 2025.
Wait! Here is an update! The deal terms appear to have already been revealed, with the Reds moving outfielder Mike Sirota to Los Angeles… but that’s not all.
According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, a Reds-Yankees Lux trade could be in the works. Is this the start of a three-team transaction, or did the Reds simply help the Yankees avoid their recent World Series opponents?
They’ve already done business with the Yankees this offseason, trading for backup catcher (and former All-Star) Jose Trevino shortly before Christmas. And, if we assume further trades are on the way, Krall and the Reds have had a busy day, as they also acquired a former Rangers top pitching prospect in a separate transaction.
Oh, wait, another update! Bowden has been notified that Lux is sticking with the Reds. A deal to the Yankees will not happen. Okay then! Thank you for the swift curveball.
Reds fans are still hoping for a bigger free agent splash, but Krall and the front office have done enough on the trade front to keep the public interested. Oh, and Terry Francona is here. Can’t Forget about that. So, yes, sign a star free agent too.
