The Eagles’ head coach discussed what the club needs to do to get where it wants to be. On December 28, the Boston College Eagles football program’s first year under Bill O’Brien came to a close with a 20-15 loss to the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the 2024 Pinstripe Bowl.
The loss brought the Eagles’ overall record to 7-6 this season.
Now, the program hopes to build on last season and move forward.
On Wednesday, O’Brien appeared on the inaugural episode of The Bill O’Brien Podcast With Jon Meterparel of 2025.
In the episode, the 55-year-old focused on the future and provided his idea of what measures the team needs to do to get where they want to.
be. “In the very first team meeting, I think the big thing is look guys, we’re BC now, we’re one,” according to O’Brien. “It doesn’t matter how you got here since we have different types of guys in the room now. We have guys that have been playing here for a while and were recruited to come to BC. We have transfers, and then we have incoming freshmen who are mid-years and have just arrived on school.
So you have these varied types of men, but it doesn’t matter how you got there,” explained O’Brien. “Now you are BC. You’re the one, and all we care about is what you’ll do for the team. And it will be a major emphasis.

Let’s have a tremendous strength and conditioning program, which we’ll call the fourth quarter program or winter conditioning, and then that’ll lead into spring practice, but one day at a time.” The Dorchester, Mass. native also underlined the significance of becoming a physical team, which he has discussed since last summer.
“I just think [we need to] keep harping on the physicality,” according to O’Brien. “We, Boston College, need to be a physical team. So we need to get stronger. We need to improve our condition in all positions.”
