This Cleveland Guardians standout has received some poor expectations for the 2025 MLB season. One of the greatest storylines for the Cleveland Guardians this season was outfielder Steven Kwan, who flirted with.400 for a while before making his first All-Star appearance.
However, Kwan dropped drastically down the stretch, finishing with a.293/.368/.425 slash line.
Those are certainly still good figures, but he only hit.206/.316/.302 in the second half, resulting in a significant drop in his total averages.
That being said, Kwan’s career slash line is.285/.359/.396, so the numbers he concluded with are probably more indicative of who he truly is.
FanGraphs’ Dan Szymborski has revealed his ZiPS estimates for 2025, and while he sees Kwan playing decent baseball, it is far from the blistering pace the 27-year-old was on in the first half of 2024.
Szymborski expects Kwan to slash.283/.360/.389 with eight home runs and 57 RBI gives him a.749 OPS.
Again, that is not horrible, and it is consistent with Kwan’s career.755 OPS. However, early last season, Guardians fans hoped Kwan would develop into a perennial All-Star player.
Perhaps this is not the case.
Kwan is only in his fourth MLB season, so he still has lots of time to develop. However, it’s possible that the Oregon State product is simply a respectable, if not outstanding, hitter who plays excellent left field.
And you know what? There is nothing wrong with that, but given Cleveland’s offensive needs in 2025, Guardians fans were surely expecting for more.
