The St. Louis chairman feels confident in the franchise’s future. The St. Louis Cardinals conducted a key press conference Monday afternoon to detail the team’s future plans.
Although Cardinals fans were disappointed when it was announced that Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak would fulfill his contract and serve one more season, there is hope in Chaim Bloom, who will take over for Mo.
However, one thing became clearly clear: Cardinals chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. is insensitive to St. Louis supporters’ displeasure and dissatisfaction with the team.
“But you know, when you think about it, we ended up winning 83 games,” DeWitt said when asked if the low attendance at Busch Stadium III this season represented the club’s dismal performance in recent years. “You know, there was a positive, young players, as I mentioned, were a big part of that and I think it’s an exciting team to watch and to follow and to see the other young players that are going to be coming up.”
After an ugly season at Busch Stadium with record-low attendance, it’s difficult to identify the Cardinals as an entertaining team, unless you’re the owner.
“So, you know, if I were a fan, I’d be kind of enthusiastic about the
future.” DeWitt proceeded. “I see what we have, what’s coming, and you know, change may be beneficial. “I’m ready to go.” Not only does the Cardinals’ farm system score badly, but it appears that fan favorites will be traded this winter after the management stated plans to slash payroll this offseason. When you consider this, looking ahead to the future can be difficult if you’re a St. Louis fan.
Granted, DeWitt is attempting to remain positive amid a difficult moment in the Cardinals’ history, but it is too early to declare that fans should be optimistic about the future. It could be a while before St. Louis returns to the playoffs, which isn’t something Look forward to.
