The Las Vegas Raiders’ quest for a head coach continues after the organization lost out on its top candidate, former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who was hired by the Chicago Bears earlier than expected.
It was assumed that Johnson would do in-person interviews before making his selection, but he plainly did not require them. It was a devastating blow for Raiders supporters, who believed Johnson had a decent chance of landing in Las Vegas based on sources. As the Raiders flip the page, it remains to be seen the direction they will go. Will they go with a more seasoned, calm hand, like former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll? Or will they strive to
Go after another offensively inclined coach? As we wait for the Raiders’ next move, Cory Woodroof of For The Win predicts they will employ Joe Brady, the Buffalo Bills’ offensive coordinator.
“After the Raiders reportedly struck out on Johnson, we predict they immediately pivot and go after Brady, another one of the game’s rising offensive minds from his time with the Buffalo Bills and Carolina Panthers as an offensive coordinator,” says Woodroof. “He’d be a very good consolation prize.”
Brady is in his second stint as an offensive coordinator in the NFL. Before joining the Bills as a quarterbacks coach, Brady was the offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers from 2020 to 2021.
Brady’s offense ranked 10th in total yards per game, ninth in passing yards, ninth in rushing yards, and second in points in his debut season as quarterback of the Buffalo Bills. The Bills’ outstanding performance has only added to Brady’s reputation as one of the sport’s sharpest young minds.
The Raiders have examined several candidates thus far, but Brady has not been among them. That could change now that Las Vegas has a general manager in John Spytek, who may identify further candidates.
Brady’s play-calling ability and expertise as a quarterbacks coach should pique the interest of a Raiders team looking to choose a young signal-caller in the 2025 NFL choose.
The issue with Brady is that The Raiders may have to wait for him. If the Bills win the AFC Championship Game, Las Vegas won’t be able to interview him until after the Super Bowl.
