TAMPA, Florida — During the Yankees’ first spring training workout for pitchers and catchers on Wednesday, one player was unexpectedly absent.
Right-handed reliever Eric Reyzelman, a hard-throwing prospect who had a breakout 2024 season, was transported to a local hospital and admitted after leaving Steinbrenner Field prior to the Yankees’ workout due to an allergic reaction. Reyzelman was in stable condition.
“He’ll be kept overnight for observation, and we’ll have another update likely on Thursday,” team spokesperson Jason Zillo said.
The Yankees didn’t say what prompted the allergic response.
“There is uncertainty, so we’re going to wait for doctors to give us more information,” she said.
Reyzelman, 23, was invited to the Yankees’ major league spring training as a non-roster player following a career season. Pitching at three levels in 2024, the 6-foot-2, 188-pounder relied almost entirely on a fastball that reaches 99 mph to post a 1.16 ERA in 31 games, five saves, and 63 strikeouts over 38.2 innings.
Reyzelman had a 1.93 ERA in 21 outings for the Double-A Somerset Patriots. He also recorded a 0.00 ERA in four rookie-level games for the Florida Complex League Yankees and six for the High-A Hudson Valley Renegades. “I feel like a million bucks right now,” Reyzelman told MIIB.com last September. “I have the most confidence in myself when I get on the mound,” Thank you for relying on us to provide the journalism you can trust.
