BREAKING NEWS : Reds Make Announcement on Former Sonny Gray Trade Piece

On March 13, 2022, the Cincinnati Reds traded Sonny Gray and pitching prospect Francis Peguero to the Minnesota Twins for highly-touted prospect Chase Petty. Despite coming off a 2021 season that saw him pitch to a 4.19 ERA with Cincinnati, he was still a very serviceable veteran pitcher with a solid floor and ceiling.  approach raised concerns about the risk. Petty has been a top-ten prospect in the Reds organization since the Gray trade, peaking at No. 5 ahead of the 2024 season. He had a slight elbow ailment that hampered his 2023 season, but the Reds watched and reduced his exertion to avoid reinjury. Petty spent most of 2024 in Double-A, pitching to a 4.39 ERA over 26 appearances, but has thrown to a 3.00 ERA in seven Triple-A starts at the end of 2024 and the first month of current season This is only supposed to be a spot start for Petty, but it is a fantastic opportunity for the 22-year-old to show the squad what he is capable of.
