Town has been given planning permission to expand the gym at their Playford Road training complex.

The application, submitted in mid-December, specified an expansion to the back of the main training site building.

“Ipswich Town Football Club is seeking to enhance their facilities to meet the demand of the intensity training for existing club members/players in the training ground,” the description of the application states.

“The application proposes a gym building extension with a link connection to the existing training centre, and parking arrangement will remain the same.”

CEO Mark Ashton stated in September that rebuilding the club’s training facility is “the next big project,” and in December revealed that the Blues had completed the purchase of the little part of land retained by former owner Marcus Evans after the takeover.

The gym addition is anticipated to be a precursor to more significant training ground construction, as well as long-term enhancements to Portman Road, such as a replacement for the Cobbold Stand.
