Huddersfield have announced the appointment of new managers to take charge after Saturday’s game against Hull

Huddersfield have named German Andre Breitenreiter as their new head coach.

Breitenreiter, who led Zurich to the Swiss Super League triumph in 2022, will join the Terriers on February 19 after meeting visa criteria.

Jon Worthington, who took over for Darren Moore at the end of January, will lead the club in Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship fixture at home to Hull.
Breitenreiter, 50, led Paderborn to their first Bundesliga season in 2014 before moving on to Schalke, where he led them to fifth place and Europa League qualification.

Breitenreiter left Schalke in the summer of 2016 after only one season and took over at Hannover, where he also achieved promotion.

After a successful period in Switzerland, he returned to the Bundesliga with Hoffenheim, where he was fired in early February while the club was narrowly outside the relegation zone.

Huddersfield owner and chairman Kevin Nagle stated on the club’s website, ‘I am really thrilled about Andre’s hiring.

‘At the start of this process, we were extremely clear about what we expected our head coach to deliver.

‘At the top of that list was the development of a winning culture, in which there is no fear of taking risks in order to achieve all three points in every game, whether before or during the game.

‘We also want to provide football that will excite our fans, who enjoy a fast-paced, front-foot, all-action style. Andre, we believe, is the best person to deliver on this.

‘His credentials as a winner are clear to all, and when I spoke with him, I was struck by his depth of knowledge. I’m excited to see what effect he has on our brilliant team.

Breitenreiter’s backroom crew will be confirmed in due time.

Huddersfield are 20th in the Championship table, five points above the relegation zone.
