QPR’s current goalkeeper, Asmir Begovic, only signed a one-year contract with the club last summer.
QPR has ‘enquired’ about a summer deal for Nigerian international Stanley Nwabali. The goalkeeper shined at the Africa Cup of Nations, winning the Man of the Match award in the semi-finals, and is expected to make his first move to Europe.

That’s according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who posted about QPR interest on his social media profile on Sunday morning. According to Romano, Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has been approached by clubs such Al Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia and Queens Park Rangers in the United Kingdom. His South African club, Chippa United, will assess his future move in the coming months.

The 27-year-old now plays for Chippa United in South Africa’s Premier Soccer League. Nwabali joined the club in 2022, leaving Nigerian side Katsina United.Despite not being well-known with QPR fans, the star’s performance in this year’s Africa Cup of Nations led Nigeria to second place. He saved two penalties in the semi-final against South Africa, earning accolades from former Super Eagles shot-stopper and AFCON 1994 winner Peter Rufari.

Rufari stated, “My first encounter with Stanley Nwabali came during the first match of the AFCON versus Equatorial Guinea. After assessing his performance, movement, communication, and composure, I concluded that Nigeria has solved the problem of finding a better goalie for their Super Eagles.Nwabali’s performance in the first encounter [against Equatorial Guinea] impressed me, and Nigerians were pleased as well, but it didn’t stop there.

Marti Cifuentes presently prefers experienced goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, although the former Chelsea, Stoke City, and Bournemouth player has endured criticism for his performances this season. The 36-year-old’s current contract at Loftus Road is set to expire at the end of the year, after signing a one-year agreement when he joined the club last summer.
