What former Newcastle united manager Steve Bruce said about the club

Allan Saint-Maximin’s four-year contract with Newcastle United expired last month. Allan Saint-Maximin’s move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli brought an end to the Frenchman’s four-year stint on Tyneside, which had both delighted and tormented him. Saint-Maximin was a fan favorite who, particularly during his first two seasons at the club, would win games and points on his own while the club battled relegation. Steve Bruce, who signed Saint-Maximin from Nice in 2019, recently revealed his plans for the winger, whom he characterized as a ‘acquired taste’. “Of course, we had Saint-Maximin who was ‘the one’ who could win me a game,” Bruce stated on the Up Front podcast with Simon Jordan. He had a bit of an acquired taste.”He liked football, but he was unique, and you had to feed his ego. I had to soothe his ego and control him because without him on the team, we would struggle to win.”

Bruce’s career as manager at St James’ Park ended in October 2021, leaving the Magpies in the relegation zone following a winless start to the season. Saint-Maximin, who published a moving message on his social media accounts, was among those who praised Bruce for his efforts at the club.

‘You are without a doubt one of the most polite persons I have ever encountered in football. You have always kept your word, been a loving and fair man, and have never hesitated to protect us. I will never forget how you treated me, and I will be eternally thankful.’
