Jacksonville Jaguars potential star has signed a new long-term contract, $22.5 million

Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Foye Oluokun has signed a new long-term contract, securing his future with the team.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Oluokun’s new contract is for $45 million over four years. This contract includes $22.5 million in guaranteed money upon signing, thereby binding Oluokun to the Jaguars through the end of the 2027 season.

The agreement comes as Oluokun enters the final year of his previous three-year, $45 million contract with the Jaguars, signed in March 2022. Notably, the old agreement contained no residual guaranteed money and included three vacant years from 2025 to 2027.

From the Jaguars’ perspective, this new deal serves a dual purpose. Not only does it solidify Oluokun’s presence on the team, but it also helps alleviate his substantial salary cap hit for the upcoming season. Currently, Oluokun carries a cap charge of $21.8 million, ranking as the fourth-highest on the team behind Christian Kirk, Josh Allen, and Cam Robinson

Josh Allen’s own cap hit is expected to decrease once he finalizes a long-term agreement. His current $24 million cap allocation stems from the franchise tag, which he has yet to formally accept for the upcoming season.

Oluokun’s impact on the field has been formidable, particularly evident in his prolific tackling prowess. Dating back to his final season with the Atlanta Falcons in 2021, he has consistently racked up impressive tackle numbers, surpassing 173 combined tackles in each of the past three seasons.

Notably, he topped the league in tackles in 2021 (192) and 2022 (184). His 239 solo tackles over the last two seasons demonstrate his defensive brilliance, exceeding any other player in the NFL during that time period.

Oluokun’s presence bolsters the team’s defense, while remarkable performances from players like Josh Allen and Travon Walker, who combined for 27.5 sacks last season, give the Jaguars a strong defensive foundation.

Looking ahead, if the team can take advantage of a good draft to address more areas of need, they might establish themselves as formidable rivals in the AFC South, potentially challenging the Houston Texans for the division’s top spot in the 2018 season.
