Wolves signed Yerson Mosquera from Atletico Nacional in 2021, and he made his debut in the EFL Cup.
That debut proved to be fairly ill-fated, as the player sustained a hamstring injury and required surgery.
The 22-year-old defender then went on loan to FC Cincinnati in the MLS, then in January of this year, Wolves shipped him to Villarreal for the remainder of the season.
Since then, the Colombia international has made ten appearances and scored one.
He’s been a regular for the most part, which has urged him to stay, either for the rest of the season or as a full transfer.
SuperDeporte has spoken with Mosquera, and the Wolves-owned athlete isn’t afraid to be open about his future plans.
According to the Spanish daily, he stated, “I do not rule out the possibility of continuing. I am extremely clear about what I want. I’ve told a lot of people, including the clubs, that I’m quite comfortable here, that the people and the club have both been very kind, and that if the opportunity to come here arises, I’d be thrilled.
They have welcomed me here, and this is a unique club that provides you with every opportunity to advance.”
When asked if he would be ‘delighted’ if Wolves and the Spanish arranged a loan or a permanent transfer, Mosquera replied, “Yes. I don’t actually close the door. Villarreal is a large club with a strong track record in terms of outstanding players and international competition. Continuing to play for this club would allow me to gain experience and advance my career.
“To be honest, I would like to stay; I have no difficulty stating it; I have communicated it to the club (Villarreal), as well as to the Wolves in England, and I have also stated that my desire is to have the opportunity to stay. But this is football, so nobody knows what will happen. It may or may not occur.
Now it’s up to Wolves to decide whether he fits into their squad next season, if he needs additional time on loan, or if a permanent exit is the best option.
