JUST IN : Wigan Warriors coach sings praises of youngster with Kaizen mentality signposted

Teenage wonder Junior Nsemba continues to flourish for Wigan Warriors, putting in another outstanding performance as they defeated Catalans Dragons on Thursday night, with coach Matt Peet heaping praise on the kid after the game.

Until Willie Isa’s ankle fracture dislocation in the Challenge Cup against Castleford Tigers last month, Nsemba had made all but three senior games for Wigan, all off the bench. But, with veteran Isa injured for several months, the 19-year-old has been pushed into Matt Peet’s starting lineup, and has yet to disappoint.

Wigan Warriors coach Matt Peet hails youngster Junior Nsemba, highlighting the teenager’s Kaizen approach.

In their Round 10 match against Catalans, which the Warriors won 30-8 after trailing 8-6 at halftime, the teenage second-rower’s 92-metre tally was only surpassed in their forward pack by skipper Liam Farrell, who earned a couple of his 103 metres on the night and scored his 150th career try.

Furthermore, only winger Abbas Miski was able to match Nsemba’s five tackle busts, with the teenager’s 31 tackles surpassing all but one Catalans player, hooker Alrix Da Costa.

As a result, it’s no surprise that Cherry & Whites CEO Peet is happy with what he sees from Nsemba, praising his ambition to consistently improve – adopting the Kaizen approach.
Peet stated, “I believe that was the exact game that he needed because we had to do a lot of defending, and he did a lot of work.”

“There will be things that he wants to work on and improve, but he will grow better each week. He works hard during the week, and he is eager to learn.

“When a player like Willie is set in stone there (at the position), a lot of it is about the combinations, getting to know each other, and developing some chemistry between the four of them on the edge and the guys on the inside.

“It’s just work we need to do on the training field to get Junior to a place where he’s (getting) better and better each week, and that’s what we’ll do.”
