LATEST UPDATE : John Eustace gives clear indication on Blackburn Rovers future

Whether or whether Blackburn Rovers get relegated this weekend, John Eustace wants to run the club next season.

The head coach guides Leicester City with the knowledge that a point against the recently crowned Champions will guarantee their place in the Championship next season.

However, defeats and victories for Birmingham City, Plymouth Argyle, and a Sheffield Wednesday draw would return them to League One for the first time since 2018.

Eustace signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Ewood Park after replacing Jon Dahl Tomasson in February. His mission at that time was clear: to keep the squad going.

That task has gone to the final day but regardless of the outcome at The King Power Stadium, Eustace wants to stay on and help build Rovers to a brighter future.

“I hope so yes, absolutely. I came in to help the football club,” he told The Lancashire Telegraph.
“It’s a fantastic football club with fantastic players and fantastic fans. It is a place that I want to be.

“I haven’t thought much about last season, every moment I get is focused on keeping this team in the league. It’s been no different this week.

“I have come to this club to help build it but the most important thing is to stay in the league.”

Rovers’ hopes of staying in the Championship may depend on the clinicalness of their front line. Eustace admits the team have been too dependent on Sam Szmodics this season.

“Over the last 17, 18 games, I think we’ve had a good consistency in how we have played but what hasn’t been consistent is putting the ball in the net and that is something we have to work on and improve,” he said.

“It is correct that we have relied on Sam (Szmodics). We need to keep improving and working hard on the training field. That is all we can do.

“The forwards, midfielders, and defence have a collaborative obligation to not just defend but also score. Midfielders and defenders have not scored enough set-piece goals. We’ll check into it.”
