Gabbie Marshall, who finished her career at Iowa last month, is waving farewell to basketball.
Marshall bid goodbye to hoops in a heartfelt Instagram post on Sunday afternoon.
“As I am nearing my last month in Iowa City ready to take on the next chapter of my life, I have had lots of time to reflect on all the incredible memories I have made, opportunities I have been given, people I have met, and friendships that will last forever because of the game of basketball,” Marshall stated. “It has been my entire life for the past 18 years, and I value all of the highs and lows, lessons learnt, and everything in between. My five-year-old self would have been very proud.
how far I’ve come and all that I’ve seen.” The Cincinnati native also thanked the Iowa program and fans for their contributions to their lives.
“Most importantly I think about the journey I have been on these last 5 years at the place where I was able to live out my dreams and accomplish so much more than I could’ve even imagined,” Marshall stated. “Thank you Iowa and Hawkeye Nation for being my home away from home, for showing me so much love and support & for giving me the best ending to the sport that has shaped my life.”
Marshall, who is 5-foot-9, has been an essential “glue” element for Iowa since her arrival. She became a full-time starter in her second season and finished with 166 games and 137 starts.
Marshall, a career 39.2% three-point shooter, was also the Hawkeyes’ best defender. She became the first player in Iowa women’s basketball history to make 200 three-pointers and 200 steals in a career, as well as surpass 1,000 points.
Marshall averaged 6.6 points, 1.7 assists, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game throughout her tenure.
