BELGIAN PRO LEAGUE TO INTRODUCE STRICTER OWNERSHIP TESTS TO AVOID REPEAT OF BARNSLEY AFFILIATED PACIFIC MEDIA GROUP’S OOSTENDE TENURE

According to Het Nieuwsblad, Belgian Pro League clubs will vote on imposing more strict ownership standards for prospective Belgian club purchasers. Following the events at Oostende and Standard Liege, it is evident that something must be done to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. The Pacific Media Group owned Oostende, as well as Nancy and Barnsley. The club was operated poorly, went bankrupt, and was forced to disband due to a lack of buyers. They are not the only Belgian club that has gone out of business in recent years. Mouscron also ceased to exist following their relegation from the Pro League.

777 has controlled Standard for two years, which many fans believe is too long. The team has faced several transfer prohibitions, and it is questionable whether the group has the funds to keep the football club going. Thankfully, it appears like they want to sell the club this summer.
