Derby County coach lays out ‘important’ transfer plans ahead of Championship return

Derby County coach Matt Hale has revealed what will be ‘essential’ in the club’s transfer intentions this summer.

Derby County used the loan window during the 2023/24 season, sending 10 players to temporary homes. The Rams mostly focused moves to the National League, sending players to Braintree Town, Rochdale, and Mickleover.

Derby’s promotion to the Championship is likely to alter their loan window strategy, since many young players are now unlikely to be able to make the large step up and may instead opt to play elsewhere this season.

Last season, the Midlands club was extremely successful, thanks in large part to Dajaune Brown.

The striker joined Gateshead in January,

scored 10 goals in 20 games, helping them win the FA Trophy.
Brown is one of several bright prospects at Pride Park, and academy boss Matt Hale has conceded that utilizing loan agreements will be highly ‘vital’ for the team.

Derby County will be careful to utilize the lending market.
Speaking to Derbyshire Live, he stated, “It (Brown’s loan) changes our thinking.”What we’ve done in recent months is use the loan market, particularly for Daj, in a way that we believe will be quite beneficial. Some of our players will not require a loan and will be able to immediately join the first team squad and hopefully make an impact.

“Others may require a different experience if the perfect club comes up. I believe it is part of our strategy to tap into the loan market, but it must be the correct one. The correct style and game time are essential. Full-time loans are also becoming increasingly necessary now that we are in the Championship.

Will Dajaune Brown join the senior squad?
Dajaune Brown was previously well regarded at Moor Farm, but his recent loan spell at Gateshead has truly catapulted him into the spotlight. The teenager was just playing in the National League, but he has earned an opportunity to play senior football in the Championship.

Brown’s form has already piqued the interest of Sunderland and Newcastle United, but the Rams should work hard to keep him.

Derby are already looking to improve their attacking ranks after releasing Dwight Gayle and Martyn Waghorn, and while Brown may not be ready to start, he might make an impact off the bench.
