Rotherham United leads Birmingham City, Huddersfield, and Wrexham in the race to sign a 30-year-old goalkeeper.

Marko Marosi appears ready to be on the move this summer. Rotherham United is leading the hunt to capture Marko Marosi from Shrewsbury Town this summer.

According to The Shropshire Star, a number of other League One clubs are interested in the goalie for next season.

Rotherham’s 2023/24 season was a disappointment, as they were demoted to the third division of English football after two seasons in the Championship.

However, the Millers have already made significant progress in the transfer window, signing Jonson Clarke-Harris, Sean Raggett, Liam Kelly, and others as they try to rebuild under returning manager Steve Evans.

As they prepare for the new season and Evans’ return to the dugout, it appears that they are also on the verge of signing another player.

Rotherham United leads the Marko Marosi race.

According to the most recent update, Rotherham are now in a strong position to recruit Marko Marosi this summer.

Marosi’s contract with Shrewsbury expires this summer, hence he is currently available for free transfer.

The club stated in their end-of-season retained list that they have given the goalkeeper a new contract to extend his time at The New Meadow.

Despite this, the 30-year-old is poised to move on, and is thought to be garnering interest from Birmingham City, Huddersfield Town, and Wrexham this

However, Rotherham are said to be at the head of the queue for Marosi’s services.

If they complete the agreement, the goalkeeper may become their seventh acquisition of the summer.

Jonson Clarke-Harris, Reece James, Liam Kelly, Shaun McWilliams, Joe Powell, Joe Rafferty, and Sean Raggett have already made permanent moves to The New York Stadium this summer.

Since joining Shrewsbury in the summer of 2021 from Coventry City, Marosi has made 147 appearances in all competitions for the club, keeping 35 clean sheets.

Birmingham and Huddersfield, like Rotherham, were demoted from the Championship to League One last season.

Wrexham were promoted from League Two, their second promotion in as many seasons.

Shrewsbury finished 19th in the League One table, four points above the relegation zone.

Marko Marosi may be a good addition for The Millers. It appears that signing Marosi would be a positive move for Rotherham United this summer.

The club has already lost its first-choice goalkeeper since the end of the season, with Viktor Johansson joining Stoke City.

Evans will very likely require reinforcements in that position, and Marosi would provide a quality and experienced option at

Given that he is available for free after his contract expires, the monies from the Johansson sale might be used to enhance other parts of the squad. It is also worth mentioning that Birmingham have both John Ruddy and Neil Etheridge out of contract this summer, while Arthur Okwonko has left Wrexham for the time being following his loan stay, though the Red Dragons hope to buy the youngster permanently.

So, with this agreement, the Millers would not only bolster their own team, but they would also deprive their potential rivals a transfer market boost.

With all of that in mind, it would undoubtedly make sense for Rotherham United to try and get this trade done. And the sooner, the better.
