LATEST UPDATE : Rotherham United looks set to miss out on one of their key summer targets after

Rotherham United is expected to miss out on one of their rumored summer objectives.

They had been connected with a deal for Barnsley full-back Jordan Williams, who became a free agent this summer after the Tykes failed to progress out of League One. Darren Witcoop suggested that Steve Evans’ team was looking for Williams, who came up through the ranks at Huddersfield Town.

However, Rotherham’s promotion to League One appears to have cost them in the quest for the 24-year-old. According to The News in Portsmouth, Pompey, who succeeded the Millers in the second tier, are interested in signing the defender. Cardiff City are also interested in signing the right back.

With two.

With Championship sides vying for the title, Rotherham’s approach is unlikely to succeed. Steve Evans is not used to not getting what he wants; he has already signed seven players, including Sean Raggett and Joe Rafferty from Portsmouth. Rotherham will be hoping to recover quickly; they’ve been promoted from League One four times since 2013, and have only lasted consecutive seasons in the level once since 1997. Williams is searching for a new challenge after six seasons at Oakwell. During his stint with the Tykes, he appeared in 201 games and scored nine goals, helping the club achieve promotion from League One in 2018-19. Relegation occurred in 2021, and he was dismissed from his contract this summer as new manager Darrell Clarke aims to rebuild Barnsley.

have already begun their rebuilding for next season, signing midfielder Conor Hourihane from Derby County. He was a former Tyke who was released by the Rams at the end of last season after they were promoted to the second division. Writer’s perspective
One thing to say about Evans: he makes a lot of signings, and some of them fall through. Some succeed, obviously, but why would a player take that risk?

Given the size and position of the two Championship clubs, it appears Williams will make the move up. Evans won’t get his man this time, but rest assured, he’ll have a list of players he wants and won’t lose sleep over not getting one.

Pompey seems like a solid fit. John Mousinho’s club is on the rise, and they have an Ipswich-like quality to them. They could surprise a few next season, especially with astute additions like Williams.
