There’s hope that the Canaries, led by new head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup, are primed to take off again after a disappointing season under David Wagner. The club might have the ideal man if they are prepared to dedicate themselves to using young players to attack football.

Ben Knapper, the sporting director of Norwich City, made all the correct comments after the appointment. Johannes’ alignment with our vision and values is evident. He is a seasoned player with a distinct and observable playing style.”

However, who is this 35-year-old Dane and what specific playing style has convinced the club to select him over players with more experience? Alexander Riget, the guy who hired him for his previous employment, FC Nordsjaelland, could be the best person to explain.
Telling Sky Sports, “I was the one who identified him nine years ago,” Riget said. Thorup was at the local club AB, working in the youth setup. It was evident that he has coaching talent. In his sideline communications, he was really explicit. Additionally, he was excellent at changing with the times during the different games we played against them.”

In fact, Riget trained against him. He prevailed in both contests. He laughs and adds, “But to be honest, I also had the better team.” Nordsjaelland made it clear right away that they wanted this young coach to be part of their system. Not that Thorup needed much convincing.
The transition from AB to Nordsjaelland was uncertain since he would have advanced quickly there. So he didn’t know what to do. However, it was important for him to come into this setting and have some mentors here from whom he could learn.”

Thorup did not remain as the U14 team’s coach for very long. “It was a no-brainer him joining the U17s.” The following phase followed success. “His decision to join the senior team was always certain. He have the abilities and the potential.”
