Forest Green Rovers are reportedly close to signing Cambridge United midfielder Adam May ahead of the 2024/25 National League season.
The 26-year-old played consistently for Cambridge United in League One last season but could be relegated to the fifth tier of English football. Forest Green have already signed four new players this summer, all of whom have significant EFL experience to the club.
How did May perform last season?
May joined Cambridge United from Championship side Portsmouth in September 2020 and has been a key player for the club.
However, during the 2023/24 season, he saw a decrease in game time after missing the campaign’s start due to a prolonged injury lay-off.
He made 30 appearances for the club in all competitions, assisting once in an FA Cup match against Bracknell Town.
Is a deal likely?
May has received very few first-team minutes throughout the 2023/24 season, and this has not changed despite a change in management.
As a result, it is possible that May will be looking for a new home after his four-year stay with Cambridge comes to an end.
Journalist Pete O’Rourke claims that Forest Green Rovers are close to signing the 26-year-old ahead of the new season, implying that a deal has already been reached between all sides.
Forest Green Rovers may have plummeted into the National League, but the club has released nearly half of its playing team and recruited important experience in the form of Ben Tozer and Liam Sercombe.
May would most certainly see a huge boost in first-team football if he were to drop into the National League, which might play a significant component in any sort of agreement that takes place.
