BREAKING : Barnsley are now set to announced the signing of another 23 years old striker

Barnsley are looking to recruit Fleetwood Town striker Promise Omochere this summer.

That is according to writer Alan Nixon’s Patreon post, which also reveals that Omochere’s Cod Army price tag is roughly £500,000.

And the Tykes face competition in the transfer market for the Irish striker, who wants to stay in the third division after Fleetwood’s relegation last season.

Following the departure of Devante Cole, the Oakwell club will be looking to add a new striker to their ranks. Cole was the club’s best scorer last season, netting 18 League One goals, which was only surpassed by Colby Bishop, who won the title with Portsmouth, and golden boot winner Alfie May.

Barnsley wants to sign Fleetwood Town striker Promise.

Omochere After making the play-offs last season but falling short in the semi-finals to Bolton Wanderers, the Tykes will be seeking to finish in the top six of League One for the third consecutive season.

It is so critical that new manager Darrell Clarke to find a sufficient substitute for the prolific Cole, whose goals helped earn a play-off spot last time around.

Fleetwood Town sign Irish striker Promise Omochere

Omochere might be the answer, and perhaps a bargain at a reported half-million pounds, provided the Irishman can improve and add to the six goals he scored in Lancashire last season.

Barnsley may also benefit from Omochere’s League One experience, and supporters should not be concerned that he only scored six goals for Fleetwood during the 2023-24 season – despite Town’s struggles, the 23-year-old was one of their bright spots in a dark campaign.

If Omochere can take his form to the next level if he signs for Barnsley, the Tykes might be in with a good chance of automatic promotion if they manage to capture his services despite stiff opposition.

Promise Omochere’s departure would be harmful to Fleetwood Town.

The Cod Army’s climb through the levels in recent years has been amazing, but after ten seasons in League One, the Fylde coast club has been demoted to League Two.

Charlie Adam’s side will be eager to return to the third division at the first opportunity, and Omochere’s eye for goal and pace might be a valuable addition as they seek to restore League One status.

The club will not want to allow one of its prized assets leave, but it could prove difficult to ward off interest from the likes of the Tykes, who have loftier ambitions with Championship football in mind, and the Irishman himself would want to continue his adventure in the

Third layer. Despite the absence of Omochere, the Cod Army might still be a formidable force in League Two, and Ronan Coughlan could be a clinical fourth-tier player.

Interest in Omochere provides the Lancashire club with the potential to cash in with only one year remaining on his contract, which might also aid their targeted 2024/25 promotion drive to reinforce in several areas of the pitch at Highbury.
