Midfielder handed post-Hearts challenge after Tynecastle loan with Charlton future in limbo

The Charlton standout moved to Hearts for the second half of the season.
Scott Fraser has been issued a challenge after returning to Charlton from his loan at Hearts.

The midfielder joined Steven Naismith’s team in January for the second half of the 23/24 season, as the club finished third in the Premiership and qualified for European competition. He appeared on 12 occasions and contributed two assists in his first trip north of the border since leaving Dundee United in 2018. Charlton manager Nathan Jones was appointed four days after Fraser moved to Gorgie, and his League One team is currently in Slovenia for a pre-season training camp. Fraser’s future remains uncertain, despite the fact that he has recently signed former Rangers and Hibs star Greg Docherty to his midfield. Jones claims he knows everything he needs to know about the former Hearts loanee. Now it’s up to the 29-year-old to show he can fit into his plans in the English third tier.

When asked if Fraser was someone he’d need to look into more closely, Jones told the South London Press: “We know where we are with Scott Fraser and the other players. I’m very familiar with Scott Fraser. If I don’t know about him now, I haven’t done my research in the last ten years. I know exactly where we stand with our squad.

“We have brought in and reinforced the midfield. So, everyone who wants to play in that midfield area needs to be active and right on it. It’s time to demonstrate genuine excellence. If that’s Scott Fraser, fine.”
