Stoke City has made good advances in the transfer market thus far, but one vital position requires strengthening. Stoke City are looking for a striker this summer, hoping to break the 20-goal barrier for the first time since Peter Thorne did it nearly a quarter century ago.
The Potters have experienced numerous challenges since their relegation from the Premier League in 2018, but one consistent thread has been a lack of goals, which current manager Steven Schumacher is eager to put to rest.
Of course, strikers are expensive, and with spending restrictions in place in recent years, finding that player has become even more difficult. Stoke City is one of several clubs rumored to be interested in Leicester City striker Tom Cannon, who was largely a spectator as the Foxes won promotion to the Premier League last season due to injury and then management choice.
Nonetheless, the £6 million recruit from Everton a year ago has a strong pedigree, and it appears that new Foxes manager Steve Cooper wants to see what the 21-year-old Irishman can achieve before determining if a loan is the best option in his development.
Cannon scored twice in his complete Leicester City debut, a 4-1 home Championship victory over Huddersfield Town on New Year’s Day. A week later, he scored again as the Foxes triumphed 3-2 against Millwall in the FA Cup.
Cannon, a product of Everton’s junior system, made 17 appearances last season. According to John Percy of The Telegraph, there may be a few more exits. Victor Kristiansen and Boubakary Soumaré, both on loan last season, must make decisions about their futures. Tom Cannon, a £6 million Everton signing, is a loan target for a number of Championship clubs, including Stoke City, but will be given an opportunity to impress.”Stoke have already signed three players this summer, including left-back Eric Bocat, center-back Ben Gibson, and goalkeeper Viktor Johansson, but they have yet to acquire a striker.
