LATEST : MLB GM Believes Philadelphia Phillies Will Land One of Three Star Outfielders

A former general manager believes the Philadelphia Phillies will make a significant move at the trade deadline. The Philadelphia Phillies’ interest in acquiring an outfielder has been well documented. Dave Dombrowski will do everything he can to improve this squad, and with their one weakness being in the outfield, expect them to address that.

Johan Rojas, who was demoted owing to his poor performance, was called back up because of some of the team’s ailments. In July, he is slashed.174/.174/.174 with no home run.

Simply put, the Phillies have a problem in center field that, if not addressed, might cost them the World Series.

They must eventually accept that Rojas is precisely who he appears to be. There hasn’t been a long stretch in his major league career where he has proven to be capable of making an offensive contribution in this league.

Jul 6, 2024; Miami, Florida, USA; Miami Marlins shortstop Vidal Brujan (17) and center fielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. (2) celebrate their win against the Chicago White Sox at loanDepot Park.

There will be several choices at the trade deadline, including Luis Robert Jr., Jazz Chisholm, and Cody Bellinger. Philadelphia has the prospects to land them if they want to, but it’s unclear whether the front staff is comfortable trading some of the top players in their farm system.

Given their current condition, the Phillies would benefit from acquiring a significant upgrade. If it’s Robert or Chisholm, their age makes things easier.

Former MLB general manager Jim Bowden believes they will wind up with one of those three players, claiming they are “their top priority” on an episode of his “MLB Network Radio Show.”

“I guess my take is [it’s] very clear in what [general manager] Sam Fuld and [president of baseball operations] Dave Dombrowski of the Phillies are trying to do,” Bowden claimed. “They’re trying to repair center field. And they’ve made it a priority. They believe they have an adequate starting pitching staff and bullpen. They think their lineup is good. But they genuinely want to figure.

Out of center field. “And so Luis Robert of the White Sox, Jazz Chisholm of the Miami Marlins and Cody Bellinger of the Cubs have been their top priority.”

Landing any of those three would provide an immediate boost. When healthy, Robert makes a strong case for being one of baseball’s top players. Chisholm has also suffered from injuries, but his skill is undeniable.

Bellinger, perhaps the most decorated of the three, has postseason experience and was once regarded as one of the game’s best players.
