The Dallas Mavericks have had an outstanding offseason over the last several weeks, and they have developed a squad that is ready to contend in a loaded Western Conference again next year.
The most significant move of their summer was signing Klay Thompson to a three-year contract, and they also traded for Quentin Grimes and signed Naji Marshall. Dallas is flawlessly restocking their roster around Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, and with Summer League in Las Vegas beginning tomorrow, the team is making some lesser changes.
Dallas re-signed Brandon Williams to a two-way contract on Wednesday, and the Mavericks made another move on Thursday involving one of the players on their Summer League roster.
Dallas Mavericks sign Jazian Gortman to a deal.
According to Keith Smith of Spotrac, the Mavs have signed Jazian Gortman to an Exhibit 9/10 deal ahead of the Summer League. This is the Mavs’ second consecutive guard-related transaction, and Gortman might play his way into a two-way role. 
Gortman averaged 9.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 0.5 steals a game in the G League last season, shooting 40.6% from the field and 30.6% from three-point range. Gortman wasn’t the best 3-point shooter last season, but he makes up for it in 
There are alternative ways. Gortman, who is 6-foot-2 with a 6-foot-9 wingspan, has the physical stature to be a good guard defender. He is athletic, moves well laterally, and has all the tools to further grow in that area.
Gortman has excellent offensive skills and is incredibly shifty. Gortman uses his tight grip to get to his spots and into pull-up jumpers, and he finishes well around the rim. He scores in the paint with a variety of finishes, and he showcases his athleticism with brutal dunks whenever possible.
Gortman will have the opportunity to earn a roster spot for the Mavs during Summer League, and fans should be eager to see him. He was a five-star recruit in high school, and at only 21 years old, he has the potential to become a rotation player in the NBA.
