Middlesbrough has highlighted a key issue Michael Carrick needs to address in the transfer window.

A recent social media post from Middlesbrough highlighted a critical issue Michael Carrick must solve during the summer window.

Middlesbrough enters the 2024/25 Championship season on the heels of a strong run of form. Michael Carrick was able to oversee a run of only one loss in 12 league games at the conclusion of 2023/24.

Such strong form has increased the Teessiders’ chances of promotion in the upcoming season.

In addition to a better run of performances, Middlesbrough has already made several shrewd additions this summer.

Luke Ayling, Aidan Morris, and Delano Burgzorg will all help the first-team squad in 2024/25.

The North East club has also taken steps to remove some of Carrick’s team’s deadwood.

Hayden Coulson, Paddy McNair, and Liam Roberts have all departed permanently. Sammy Silvera has also been loaned out to obtain additional senior experience. However, there are a few difficulties that will need to be addressed during the 2024 summer transfer season. Middlesbrough’s goalkeeper issue exposed
One such issue is that Middlesbrough currently has too many senior goalkeepers on its roster.

Seny Dieng, Tom Glover, and Jamie Jones were Carrick’s three alternatives for the 2023/24 campaign. However, Zach Hemming and Sol Brynn have returned to the Riverside Stadium following loan periods.

Middlesbrough is now preparing for pre-season games with a warm-weather training camp in Portugal.

While away, Middlesbrough tweeted a message emphasizing the fact that they have too many senior goalkeepers.

Boro took to Instagram with the title ‘GK union’ and published a photo of four of their five senior keepers in training.

Brynn was the sole absentee from the post, but he is still anticipated to join the club in 2024/25. What goalkeeper should Middlesbrough sell?
Jones, Boro’s third-choice last season, is now a free agent, but is still training with the club and is likely to sign a new contract shortly.

The 35-year-old, who has yet to play for Middlesbrough, will once again be third choice.

Dieng will be Carrick’s first pick, with Glover, Brynn, and Hemming all battling for the second spot.

The first of those three is an Australian international who will most likely require more consistent minutes to keep his position in the national squad.

Middlesbrough also signed Glover for free last year, allowing them to make a rapid profit from his transfer.

Regarding Brynn and Hemming, the latter had a better 2023/24 season on loan at St Miren and would likely be the best second-choice option.

However, his performances for the Scottish club suggest Middlesbrough might receive a respectable transfer fee if they trade him this year.
