Zak Swanson’s Pompey comeback is scheduled to be completed within the next 48 hours.
John Mousinho has disclosed that the 23-year-old is presently working with the Blues’ medical department to finalize a new Fratton Park contract.
The right-back has been recovering from the groin injury that hampered his participation in the League One title campaign.
But Mousinho is convinced the ex-Arsenal youngster will be able to resume full training once his new contract is signed. Pompey’s boss told The News: “Zak is pretty close.” We’re finishing up the paperwork and hope to be ready to announce it in the next few days.
‘He hasn’t had any pre-season, which is never ideal, but it’s something we’ll have to deal with.
‘It’s not ideal for Zak, but it’s not the end of the world because he’s still recovering from an injury sustained at the conclusion of last season.’Like Joe Morrell, he has been working with our strength and conditioning team. He has also worked extensively with a personal physiotherapist and a personal strength and conditioning coach.
‘Zak will be in an excellent position and, hopefully, when he signs, he will be able to get right back into training. We are confident about that.’
Pompey chose to negotiate a new agreement with Swanson rather than activate.
a twelve-month option.
And with his signature, their search for right-back competition for newcomer Jordan Williams is over. ‘Obviously, the players go in the summer, but especially those with injuries, we get them working with our staff throughout the off season, even though we haven’t established contact with Zak.
‘We wanted to make sure our objective was to keep Zak at some point, and maybe we’ve succeeded.’
