Andre Green, who suffered an injury during his debut season at Rotherham United, is expected to return before the end of 2024.
The attacker had only made ten appearances for the Millers previous season before rupturing his Achilles tendon in October, forcing him to spend the remainder of the season in the shadows.
The 25-year-old’s rehabilitation has been lengthy and difficult. He joined AESSEAL New York Stadium on a two-year contract after winning a championship with Slovan Bratislava in Slovakia.
However, his development throughout the offseason was faster than expected, and he might return to first-team competition within three months.
“Andre’s ahead of time,” said manager Steve Evans to the Advertiser. “Instead of December he’s probably looking at October now.”
He remarked: “Credit to Chris Royston (head of human performance) and the medical team, they’ve got him ahead of schedule.”
Green, who previously played for Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday, also spent time with physios at national football headquarters St George’s Park as his teammates rested.
His goal was to be back working outside in pre-season, and he achieved it, albeit he isn’t yet ready to rejoin group training.
The manager praised the contribution of the club personnel, which
While the other Rotherham players were on summer break, I worked with Green on a daily basis. “Andre’s on the grass,” Evans said.
The wide man stated his desire to move on from the sadness of the previous term and return to activity as “a million percent”.
“I need to regain my fitness and get back on the team. “The main thing is to play again,” he stated. “I’m going to have ups and downs and probably not come straight back into the side but hopefully I can get there.”
Matt Taylor was still in command about 10 months ago when Green attempted to push off during training at the club’s Roundwood complex and collapsed in a heap.
The winger was sidelined throughout Leam Richardson’s subsequent tenure as head coach and stayed absent for the three games after Evans’ return to the New York job in April.
Green was ecstatic to hear that the new manager had expressed his excitement about having such an attacking skill accessible to him.
“It’s good to know,” the athlete added. “It gives me belief and confidence that I haven’t had since the injury.
“There were several changes last season with multiple managers. You form a bond, and then something happens. It is about starting from scratch and establishing a relationship.
“I am looking forward to working with the new gaffer. Hopefully, I’ll be able to give it my all next season without getting injured.”
