Middlesbrough transfer target sends message to Riley McGree after sealing new deal

A Middlesbrough summer transfer target has messaged Riley McGree after the midfielder signed a new contract.

Michael Carrick and Kieran Scott have been working hard with the support of owner Steve Gibson in preparation for the 2024/25 Championship season.
Middlesbrough have signed three new first-team players: Luke Ayling, Delano Burgzorg, and Aidan Morris.

Boro also turned down offers from two Premier League clubs to recruit 16-year-old centre-back Harley Hunt, who is due to join their academy.

Middlesbrough have worked hard on more than simply transfers this summer.

Carrick just signed a new three-year contract, which will keep him at Riverside Stadium until 2027.

Riley McGree had signed new terms with the club. Ryan Giles sent a message to Riley McGree, who joined Middlesbrough in January 2022 from MLS club Charlotte FC.

The Australian had a successful 2022/23 season with Boro, but fell out of favour last season.

This fueled suspicion that he could depart the club during the current transfer window, given he only had a year left on his deal. It wasn't easy turning down Ange' - Riley McGree - YouTube

One analyst stated that he would be pleased to see McGree leave Middlesbrough this summer. However, Boro have revealed that the 25-year-old has signed a new four-year contract.

The Teessiders announced the news on their official Instagram page. Ryan Giles, a Middlesbrough transfer target, wrote McGree a message in the post.

Giles, who played alongside McGree in 2022/23, commented: ‘Congratulations brother x’. Michael Carrick can reignite the Middlesbrough alliance in 2024-25.
McGree is a natural central midfielder who played much of 2022/23 on the left wing.

This, of course, meant he made an excellent partnership with Giles on the left-hand side.

Giles contributed 11 assists during his season-long loan at Middlesbrough, and with McGree ready to return for the next season, Carrick should aim to revive the partnership that helped Boro finish fourth in the league.

Boro’s left wing is now a problem area due to the losses of Sammy Silvera and Sam Greenwood, although McGree could help replace that vacuum in 2024/25.
