Wolverhampton Wanderers signed Rodrigo Gomes, Pedro Lima, and Tommy Doyle this summer, but Gary O’Neil will need further signings in the coming weeks to give his side a chance of finishing in the top half of the Premier League next season. There is still plenty of time before the transfer window closes, but it appears like he will need to sell a few players to obtain finances.
The Old Gold recently expressed interest in a Championship winger who has excelled in the second tier.
Wolves considering a deal for Championship winger
Football Insider reported in early July that the Molineux outfit was interested in Plymouth Argyle winger Morgan Whittaker.
They weren’t the only Premier League side to show their admiration for the player, however, as Brentford also entered the race along with Lazio, Stuttgart and Celta Vigo, indicating that O’Neil has plenty of competition to fend off. Plymouth currently value their prized asset at around £15m, which is certainly affordable for Wolves, but will it be worth it? Morgan Whittaker’s season in numbers Previously at Swansea City, Whittaker first joined the Pilgrims on a loan spell during the 2022/23 campaign, scoring nine goals in the process.
This was enough for the team to sign him permanently last summer, and the decision appears to have been a stroke of genius. The winger scored 20 goals and assisted nine times in 50 matches across all competitions, underlining his significance to the Championship side as they maintained their second-tier position.
Last season, he led his Championship colleagues in goals and assists (27), major chances created (10), critical passes per game (1.4), and successful dribbles per game (1.2), demonstrating his potential for the future.
These statistics demonstrate that he may be a dream for Matheus Cunha next season, offering lots of opportunities for the Brazilian to slot away in the top division. His pace and skill on the right wing might help the winger become yet another goal danger in the Wolves squad, especially if he can work effectively with Cunha, who will lead the attacking push.

Talent scout Jacek Kulig hailed the teenager in 2020 as he was emerging as a promising talent, describing him as a “flamboyant winger” with a style akin to Riyad Mahrez’s.
Cunha scored 14 goals in all competitions last season, but this figure may have been higher if he had received better service.
The wings Whittaker is more than simply a goal threat; he can create panic among opposing defenders, giving him space to deliver crosses into the box or make meandering runs.
Adding someone of this skill to his side could only benefit O’Neil, and he should not be put off by Plymouth’s £15 million value.
Will the Molineux team make a real offer in the coming days? Only time will tell.
