Newcastle now have the perfect long-term replacement for Trippier = Eddie Howe reveal

Tino Livramento made his first start for Newcastle United on Wednesday night, giving fans their first true look at the club’s next major star.

Tino Livramento has had to be patient in his first few months as a Newcastle player. The £32 million summer transfer from Southampton had only made two Premier League appearances before starting against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

It’s safe to say that winning Player of the Match was well worth the wait.

Livramento was outstanding against Grealish and Doku.

Livramento handled Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku with the confidence of someone who has been playing at the highest level for years. The 20-year-old demonstrated why Eddie Howe was so tenacious in his pursuit of him this summer.

Eddie Howe has now revealed how excellent Livramento has been in training since his arrival, telling The Athletic that “behind the scenes, he’s been very, very good.” I don’t believe you can come in and deliver that performance if you aren’t properly trained and applying yourself to your task.

“He understands his situation. He’s come back from a long injury (he was out for over a year before coming off the bench after 77 minutes in Southampton’s final two games last season), so that has to be considered.

“If you look at it that way, this period for him where he’s learning how the team plays is a really good time for you.” Then, when your chance comes, you must seize it. He’s already done it.”

Newcastle has found the ideal long-term successor for Trippier.
Howe spoke to Livramento’s significant injury layoff, which worried fans because not every player returns to their best after an ACL injury, but Livramento doesn’t appear to have lost much.

If this is a sign of things to come, Newcastle’s recruitment office has done a fantastic job in securing a future replacement for Kieran Trippier, and with Harrison Ashby as a back-up, the future seems bright.

It’s comforting to know that, for the time being, Howe can rest Trippier if necessary, knowing that he has more than ample insurance.
