The fourth-year guard intends to remain in Chicago for as long as the Bears will have him. Jenkins is entering the final season of his four-year rookie deal and is hoping for a long-term extension.

During the offseason program, Jenkins told the media that his representatives approached the Bears to begin contract talks, but they did not respond. Jenkins stated that things were “up in the air” as of June.

The Bears opened training camp on Saturday, and Jenkins provided a brief update on his contract negotiations with general manager Ryan Poles and the front office.

“We’ll talk about it after the bye week,” Jenkins said on Monday. The Bears will have a bye week in Week 7 following their Week 6 trip to London to face the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jenkins recognizes how critical this season will be in determining his NFL future. He wants to continue with the Bears, but they want to see if he can stay healthy for most of the season before providing him a big contract.

Jenkins claims he has doubled the amount of money he spends on his physique this season, which includes a chef, a personal physical therapist, and a masseuse.

Jenkins hopes to receive a payoff like this after the season ends. But he realizes he has a lot of obstacles to overcome and boxes to check before his idea can become a reality.

The first stage is to get to the Week 7 bye healthy and performing at the elite level that the Bears believe he can routinely achieve.
