Brighton and Hove Albion are’very interested’ in FSV Mainz young sensation Brajan Gruda, and they may have an advantage over Bayer Leverkusen in the race to sign him. According to SportBILD, Brighton’s ability to pay €50 million for him may put them ahead of the queue.
According to the tabloid, Gruda ‘has a choice’ this summer between Brighton and Bayer Leverkusen, both of whom are interested in signing the 20-year-old player. The Seagulls have an advantage over the German champions, however, because Mainz’s €50 million asking price is more simpler for English clubs to manage than anyone in the Bundesliga.
It is unclear whether Brighton is willing to pay such a fee, but Gruda is the ‘absolute dream player’ for new coach Fabian Hürzeler.
This may help them go forward. Given their existing transfer record of €35 million for Yankuba Minteh this summer, it would be a tremendous leap for them to pay such a sum for Gruda.
The winger, for his part, can envision a move to Brighton and is eager to leave Mainz this summer if given the opportunity.
The chance is there for Brighton, and it appears that their spending power affords them an advantage if they choose to take it.
