On Monday, the Longhorns landed a powerful bat.
On Monday, the Texas Longhorns secured a commitment from Northwest Florida State College’s Jaquae Stewart, who will replace first baseman Jared Thomas, who is now with the Colorado Rockies.
Perfect Game listed Stewart, a Sinton native who played under former Texas great Adrian Alaniz and current Longhorns starting catcher Rylan Galvan, as a top-70 talent in the state and the No. 4 first baseman in the 2023 class.
After a brief stop at Houston Christian, the 5’10, 230-pounder transferred to Northwest Florida State, where he eventually lost to Blinn in the junior college national title. Stewart’s bat was crucial for the Raiders, with a slash line of.346/.555/.743, 15 home runs, 62 RBI, and 61 walks. So Stewart not only has plenty of power from the left side, but he also makes consistent contact and manages the strike zone, with more walks than strikeouts in 2024.
