Gary O’Neil has provided an update on his future with the Wolves, which will undoubtedly please fans.
The manager appeared on E&S’s current podcast and discussed a number of issues.
Earlier this year, it was reported that Wolves had begun talks with O’Neil about a new deal as a reward for his outstanding performances at the club.
O’Neil took over at Molineux on short notice last year, but he supervised a successful season that kept the team far out of the relegation zone.
Recent developments regarding the manager’s future have been very quiet.
However, he has now been asked about the matter and provided a comment Wolves fans will love.
Gary O’Neil confident he will soon sign a new contract at Wolves, he’s ‘unbelievably happy’ at Molineux
Back in March, it was reported that Wolves will begin talks with O’Neil about a new contract. It was also suggested that the proposed new contract include a’significant’ buy-out clause. The club recognizes O’Neil’s outstanding performance and want to thank their head coach.
However, there has been little discussion of the manager’s future recently.
There was some brief discussion about him being admired within the FA, following Gareth Southgate’s resignation as England manager.
This was addressed to O’Neil on the most recent E&S podcast, and he began to discuss his future at Wolves.
After admitting that he would clearly want to manage England eventually, he said: “It doesn’t feel like a conversation.
(Job in England) available right now. I am ecstatic at Wolves. “I appreciate what Wolves have done for me and strive to do the same for them.”My goals and those of the club are very similar. This should not be a problem. I don’t see it being an issue. I don’t want to speak on behalf of the club, but I’d be pleased to extend my stay here.
“I don’t believe there’s anything impending. But I don’t see any problems if the club and I both remain really interested.”
It looks that O’Neil’s new contract with Wolves is now a matter of when, not if.
The situation had become quiet in recent months. Then there were some misgivings when O’Neil’s name came up in relation to the England position.
However, it appears that he is completely focused on Wolves and the project he is directing at Molineux.
Clearly, he is grateful to the club for taking a chance on him following his brutal sacking by Bournemouth, and he has the ability to do great things.
Hopefully, official confirmation of the new deal will come soon.
