According to the latest sources, newly promoted Championship team Portsmouth are close to concluding a deal for a striker in a European league’s top tier.
Pompey are back in England’s second tier for the first time in 12 years after being promoted from League One last season, and John Mousinho’s side have been handed arguably the most difficult start to the new season as they travel to Elland Road to face title-favourites Leeds United in West Yorkshire.
Mousinho spent the summer preparing his squad for life in a higher league, but the club has only made a few signings so far. Barnsley captain Jordan Williams was moved to Fratton Park, while Oxford United’s promotion hero Josh Murphy,
Jordan Archer, a shot stopper for Queens Park Rangers, was acquired on a free transfer. Furthermore, the club on the south coast concluded a deal to capture Central Coast Mariners fullback Jacob Farrell for an undisclosed amount, while Sam Silvera was signed on a season-long loan from Middlesbrough. However, it appears like Portsmouth will continue to pursue new arrivals before the summer transfer window ends at the end of next month. According to journalist Farzam Abolhosseini, Pompey are close to signing Esbjerg centre-forward Elias Sorenson, who has enjoyed a successful three-year run in Denmark with the West Jylland outfit after being released by Premier League side Newcastle United. Abolhosseini has indicated that Mousinho’s side will pay out an amount.
of between £250,000 and £340,000 to win his signature.
Sorenson is no stranger to English football, having spent consecutive loan periods with Blackpool and League Two club Carlisle United during his time with the Magpies, although making only 13 appearances in all competitions. Nonetheless, with Esbjerg, the 24-year-old has 43 goals and 21 assists in 84 appearances, which appears to have attracted Portsmouth’s interest.

We contacted The Real EFL’s resident Carlisle United fan, Ivan Newsome, about his memories of Sorensen at Brunton Park earlier in his career, and his evaluation of the Dane was not encouraging for Portsmouth fans about their potential new addition.
Despite Ivan’s evaluation, Sorensen is undeniably a better player than he was five years ago, as evidenced by his outstanding record in Danish football’s second tier. Perhaps a move to Fratton Park will give him a second chance to prove his worth in the EFL as Pompey fight for survival.
