Fin Cartwright is the latest Middlesbrough teenager to secure his first professional deal on Teesside.
The teenager has been rewarded for his efforts over the last few years, with the midfielder impressing Michael Carrick and getting a first-team debut last season.
Cartwright became Boro’s second youngest ever player last season, coming off the bench in the Carabao Cup win over Huddersfield. He was only 16 years and 161 days old at the time.
The Redcar kid, who turned 17 in February, has since represented England at the Under-17 level.
Cartwright came on as a substitute for Boro in Wednesday night’s 0-0 friendly draw with Harrogate, replacing Alex Gilbert in the final 17 minutes.
Carrick has given many Boro academy players first-team debuts since taking over as head coach at the end of 2022.
He stated at the end of last season, “I’ve said it since day one, I really enjoy giving young players a chance and trying to help them develop.”
“Of course, from the other side, they must be good enough, or shown the potential to be good enough. Because of the high level of competition in each position, not every player can make it. There is a moment of being excellent enough and choosing the right time.
“Not everyone can get that big chance, if you like, but certainly we’ll give them every opportunity we can in terms of training with us, having eyes on them and taking care of them to see how we can help develop them in the hope of getting them around the group by taking each step.”
